Hayfever relief and prevention
Hayfever is the result of an over-reactive immune system, and people often assume it’s something that develops in childhood.
Like any allergy though, we can be susceptible to developing symptoms at any time in our lives. We may not always know what’s triggered it.
Due to the close relationship between histamine and oestrogen, some women going through perimenopause for example can experience hayfever for the first time.
As a homeopath I’ve supported my clients with hayfever symptoms, but until a few years ago I’d never had symptoms myself.
I remember around March time my eyes started getting itchy. I bought some Euphrasia eye drops which gave me relief, and I didn’t think anything more of it.
The following year I didn’t get itchy eyes at first. I started to feel stuffed up, especially in the mornings, and my nose was itchy on the inside. Then I started to sneeze a lot more frequently. And when I sneezed my nose started streaming. And then I got itchy eyes.
Does this resonate with you?
Treating the symptoms
In hindsight I now see I was starting to become more sensitive, perhaps due to perimenopause.
I was very thankful to have homeopathic remedies to take to alleviate my symptoms. The intensity reduced and I was sneezing and feeling itchy much less often.
What bothers you the most? Are your eyes itchy and sore? Do you feel stuffed up and are your nose and throat itchy? Do you sneeze incessantly?
The wonderful thing about homeopathy is that it treats the individual – it’s not a ‘one size fits all’ approach.
Whatever your symptoms, there’s a remedy that can help.
Now when I have an inkling that hayfever symptoms might be starting up, I take remedies straight away.

Prevention
Anti-histamines can help with some of the symptoms of hayfever by dampening down the body’s immune response - for example reducing itching and stopping your nose from running so much.
They might not help much with eye symptoms though, and importantly they don’t address the underlying issue.
As well as supporting clients with their symptoms during the spring / summer season, I give them a sequence of homeopathic remedies to take during the winter.
Over time this helps desensitise the body and strengthen its resistance to pollen and other allergens.
Rather than suppressing symptoms, homeopathy treatment deals with the underlying susceptibility to getting hayfever in the first place.
Hayfever can be really wearing and debilitating. It’s never too late to take action to address it, so if you’re looking for a gentle and more effective solution, book a free call with me to find out more.
